Before/After: Pastel Beauties

I've been waiting for this shoot to publish so I could post about these 2 lovelies! It was quite awhile ago so pardon me if my memories fail me a bit. This was a beauty shoot and I had the pleasure of working with two very different skin-toned models. One fair and another one darker. My only brief was to use pastel colours to show that any skin tone could get wear pastels. So with that brief in mind I set about creating 2 looks. I wanted large eyes, bright fresh colours and for some reasons I kept having images of large flowers and a 60's vibe so I set to work!

Our first model is Izzy.
Face Prep: UNE Radiance Refresh Micellar Cleansing Water, Emma Hardie Hydrating Lighter Lotion, Shu Uemura UV Under Base Mousse SPF 30, Rodial Glam Balm Lip.

As you can see Izzy had redness and a few marks left from previous spots. Nothing too bad, just uneven skin so it's easily covered. When I saw her skin tone I instantly thought ice cold blues and an apricot cheek! I wanted fresh blues in various shades and textures to surround her eyes in a shimmery halo. Here she is post makeup.
Face: YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat, YSL Touche Éclat, Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage.
Eyes: YSL Ombres 5 Lumiéres in No 11 & 13, YSL False Lash Effect Mascara in Noir Radical.
Eyebrows: Anastasia Brow Wiz in Ash Blonde, MAC Clear Brow Fix.
Cheeks: YSL Blush Radiance in No 2.
Lips: YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Blonde Ingénu, YSL Golden Gloss in Sparkling Transparent White mixed with Teint Touche Éclat.
Powder: YSL Semi Loose Powder in Sand.

Before I start gushing, let me introduce you to Sharmina.
Face Prep: Une Radiance Refresh Micellar Cleansing Water, Emma Hardie Hydrating Lighter Lotion, Clarins Beauty Flash Balm, Rodial Glam Balm Lip.

Sharmina has pretty amazing skin with not a mark on it. The only concern was a slight darkening under her eyes but even that wasn't anything to worry about. On her I instantly saw purples and shimmery lilacs and pink cheeks. Have a look.
Face: YSL Le Teint Touche Éclat, YSL Touche Éclat.
Eyes: YSL Ombres 5 Lumiéres in No 4 & 13, YSL False Lash Effect Mascara in Noir Radical.
Eyebrows: MAC Clear Brow Fix.
Cheeks: YSL Blush Radiance in No 3 & 4.
Lips: YSL Rouge Pur Couture in Rose Libertine, YSL Golden Gloss in Golden Pink.
Powder: YSL Semi Loose Powder in Sand.

What do you think? I deliberately chose colours that were contradictory to their natural skin tones as this was for a fashion/beauty story and by it's very nature pastels are cooler in tones. In my opinion if you start to warm up pastels, it loses it's icy-ness and purity in tone and colour. Personally I love how it clashes in a very subtle way. Would pastels be a thing you'd try? If you wanted to keep it usable for everyday, choose one aspect of the face and focus on that rather than on every feature. I think it's a great way to use all those colours in palettes that you usually would shy away from!

  6. Loved the pop of bright colors....Reminds me of an old Christian Dior runway look designed by the maverick Pat McGrath....
So amazing. Also love the contrast the black lashes create..and the lip color is too die for.
    Wonderful!! Simply the best!
