So once again I was asked to do said combination and I had a pretty young model to work on. So instead of a full blown glamorous red lip/liner combo, I chose to tweak the liner into a different shape and keep the skin looking ethereally sheeny. It's very hard to explain this but my main concern was how it would look on the final pictures. I hope my behind-the-scene photos will do it justice. Anyway here's Alex without makeup.
Face Prep: Alpha-H Age Delay Cleansing Oil, Decléor Aroma Cleanse Cleansing
Water, Decléor Life Radiance Double Radiance Cream, Shu Uemura
Brightening UV Under Base Mousse, Decléor Nourishing Lip Balm.
As you can see Alex is young and has beautifully clear skin with a bit of darkness under the eye. I didn't want to wing the liner out like how you'd naturally do on a glamorous look. Instead I wanted to do a dip downwards or an inverted liner focusing on the lower eye instead. Hopefully the following pictures will help explain it better.
Here's Alex after makeup.
Foundation: Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua, Givenchy Mr Light, YoungBlood Natural Mineral Foundation.
Eyes: YSL Dare To Glow in No 1, YSL Waterproof Eye Pencil in Black Ink, MAC Fluidline in Black Track, YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils Shocking Mascara in Deep Black, Magnifibres, Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara in Black.
Eyebrows: Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil in Seal Brown, Gold Mascara.
Cheeks: MAC Taupe Blush, Burberry Fresh Glow, YSL Dare To Glow in No 1.
Lips: MAC Lipmix in Crimson.
Powder: Jurlique Rose Silk Finishing Powder.
Here's a closeup of the look.
And one of Alex dressed in character and looking down.
What do you think? Enough of a twist on this classic look to make it look fresh and modern?

Fabulous! Have that urge to recreate it asap! Always a good sign!:)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! Let me know how you get on please x
DeleteI love this! Have to try it for the Holiday parties!
ReplyDeleteThat's such a good idea Olivia! A variation and something different for the party season! Thanks x
DeleteShe looks stunning!
ReplyDeleteI am so in love with this blog <3
xxkarima
Ahh thank you, that's very kind of you to say x
DeleteThat last photograph is stunning. Absolutely beautiful xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Charlie! x
DeleteI think it looks beautiful. As always, I love all the explaining of the look. :)
ReplyDeleteDo you think the clinique bottom lash mascara is really worth it for a non-makeup artist? I'm seeing it everywhere and I was wondering. XX
Thanks Gaya, yes I adore the Clinique bottom mascara. It really makes a huge difference without clogging and smudging the bottom layers x
DeleteWonderful and the Winged liner downwards would be good looking on hooded eyes as well.
ReplyDeleteYes it would Sadie! To really get that doeful eye look! x
Deletejust sorry. but I love her face without make up, simple and looks beautiful
ReplyDeleteOf course Adeline. But being a professional makeup artist, I have to listen to what my clients want and make my models up according to the brief and inspiration of the shoot.
DeleteLove the make up! What caught my attention was the shade of the lipstick. Its so gorgeous. having that kind of shade looks so sexy. I want to have those. Can't wait to try it on.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely go for the Mac Lipmixes then. They are incredibly pigmented and beautiful. I always go to them when I want deeply saturated colour. Thanks for the comment x
DeleteWow, she looks beautiful, but she aged like 10 years with that makeup, haha! It's amazing how a young girl can look so much older with just a little makeup.
ReplyDeleteI really like that you didn't do the traditional grey eye shadow look it seems a lot of MUA do with a red lip. I like the simple liner and bold lip with the retro pin wave hair. And that red, va-va-voom!
ReplyDeleteThanks Christy! X
DeleteI was on random blogwalking till i stumbled upon your blog. I must say i fall in love on the moment! Your touch is magic and it inspires me. Being asian, i have black hair with black eyes and tan skin. Hooded lids and not so prominent facial bony features. Although i like the style, especially when it comes to sultry, smoky and smexy looks (lol), but it definitely wont suit our asian facies. :) need some alteration, maybe.
ReplyDeleteShe reminded me of Taylor swift. That deep red lipsticks. Love it!
Thank you, there are things that will suit certain skin tones better but every look is adaptable to each tone. It's all about knowing what works! Thanks for the lovely comment x
DeleteWow..it's so inspiring blog for all fashion lovers. Thanks for sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteThanks! x
DeleteI love this! Winged liner and red lips = my favourite (only!) look. I've just looked through your whole blog and loved your Insight My Kit - Black Eyeliners post. I was wondering if you might do one on your favourite red lipsticks/liners one day too? Great blog - I'm glad I found it (I was searching Google for reviews on YSL Shocking Eyeliner) and I love the before/after posts! Cheers Toni :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Toni, that's so good to hear that my yapping makes sense to someone! Haha, I will do one on my favourite red lipsticks soon. Stay tuned and thank you for the lovely comment. x
