Givenchy: Brand Visited: It's All In The Prep & Skin

If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you'd have noticed my recent surge of love for Givenchy Cosmetics. To the point where I think some might think it borders on obsession. As a MUA, I'm always searching for new formulas and products to help me in my everyday work and my recent reconciliation with the brand has indeed got me rather excited! So why am I so excited? Boils down to 2 things, Textures and Performance. I could go on and on but let me showcase what I think is worth investing in for yourself or if you're a MUA, your kit.

Hydra Sparkling Multiprotective Luminescence Moisturizing Fluid SPF 30
I first came across this gem when working with the Givenchy team and they brought some moisturiser with them and when I used it on the model, I was stunned at how good a moisturiser it was! Why was it good? It's hard to explain but it gave the skin a gorgeous dewiness and a radiance that meant I didn't really need much foundation after. It has a slight luminescence, not shimmer or glitter but it gave skin a gorgeous sheen that reminded me of another brand's Illuminating cream but this was much lighter. The SPF 30 is also an added bonus in my opinion. I've since converted and use this all the time.

RRP £39.00 for 50 ml.

Hydra Sparkling Intensive Moisturizing Flash Luminescence Serum
This light serum with glowy particles leaves skin radiant and packs the skin full of moisture and hydration. I've found that my recent makeup techniques have responded well to skin that is highly saturated with moisture and hydration. Model's have remarked on how cool and comfortable it feels on skin. I think it's a keeper!

RRP £41.00 for 30 ml.

Acti'Mine Colour Correctors
How did I not know these existed?! Marketed as Colour Correctors, I suppose they are what the beauty industry is calling CC Creams now. I have tried many and when I tried these, I was shocked and now cannot imagine work without them. Whatever you expect and want from CC Creams, these are the only ones I have found to deliver. As a MUA I tend to steer away from colour correction products as they usually tend to add another layer of not-doing-much to the skin and usually means bubbling or piling of foundation after. These are so amazing that I have found that I have barely needed to add foundation after! Shocking and bold claims right? I shall show you proof but first some info.

These come in 6 shades to boost skin luminosity and address all your complexion concerns and range from No. 1 to 6, named as Milk (White), Strawberry (Pink), Kiwi (Green), Plum (Blue), Mango (Apricot) and Peach (Beige). The light cream melts and re-texturises skin to provide what really is the perfect surface to apply makeup. Truly incredible.

RRP £25.00 for 30 ml.

I used all the above on a shoot recently to see if they really were indispensable in my kit. The model had good skin anyway but due to a cold she did have a few red patches and also dryness round the nose. She also looked a bit tired and blue. So I took a before shot after applying moisturiser and serum and then another after shot after applying just the Colour Correctors. I also did the brows and applied the lips as I was running short of time and needed to get her ready for the shoot. The point is that she has no foundation on but only a bit of concealer to cover a spot and a bit under her eyes to counteract the blueness. Have a look.
Come on, that's quite a heck of a difference without foundation right? Her skin looks like it's glowing from within and perfect. Now before I get a barrage of people saying that her skin is perfect anyway and there was nothing to hide. I will repeat that I am not claiming that you won't need foundation after using Acti'Mine, the point is careful prep using beneficial products will truly help in making skin look it's best without excessive makeup.

I shall leave it to your discretion on whether you think this will suit you but if you have used any of the above, I would love to hear your comments.

  2. What would be the best colour corrector for yellowish skin?

  3. Hello! What's the best colour corrector for sallow skin?

    1. Hi Rebecca, technically you would use the Plum to neuralize the sallowness/yellowness. I however would also blend the Plum with a bit of Milk to brighten as well. Best thing about these is they're so light and blend beautifully. I hope that helps x

  4. I have loved Givenchy products all the time. They are so unique and different than the rest. I have had the Acti'mine primer when it was launched (quite a long time back) and it was really amazing. I have always had Givenchy blushes in my kit and they just perform so well. The Hydra sparkling collection is amazing and hydrates the skin so differently. You have done such a wonderful post. Makes me nostalgic...

  5. What do you recommend for the redness around the oily nose? I've been using mac studio finish concealer but the redness still shows up :(

    1. I would use your normal foundation and then buff a little of something like Estee Lauder's Maximum Cover Foundation where the redness shows and then powder. You could also use a bit of the Acti'Mine Kiwi over the red bits under your foundation. I hope that helps x

  6. These seem interesting....But I don't get it. As a MUA, (or a consumer who have his photo taken) don't you want to avoid anything with SPF, as it flashes back in photography????

    1. Personally I have yet to have a foundation that flashes back. That's not saying that they don't but I really doubt anyone uses that much foundation to actually achieve any flashback. Also when you flash someone that close, regardless of whatever SPF is existing or not, there will be flash back. I have used the above on a lot of shoots and even others with SPF and it's rarely been a problem.

  9. I've recently started using the Hydra Sparkling BB Cream, and the coverage is amazing! I also use the setting mist, and I'm happy to say that my make-up didn't budge at all or feel like it was melting off in 40+ degree heat :3
I'll definitely be giving the skincare range a try, I'm impressed by the before/after photos

  10. I've always had a soft spot for Givenchy (though admittedly not tried any of their products for a few years), but didn't even realise that they did skincare. Am loving the sound of the moisturiser in particular - I think a little extra glow helps with a more - oh god I can't bear to say 'mature' but yanno...

Can see a marked difference in your model pics - her skin is glowing!

  12. do you think the Hydra Sparkling Intensive Moisturizing Flash Luminescence Serum would be compatible with an slightly oily skintype ingredient wise? i wonder if since it's illuminating, it will make me look really shiny...

    1. Hi BeeBee, thanks for the comment. To answer it in short, yes. If your face is oily then I wouldn't advise using any product or serum that has Intensive, Luminescence in the name. Although this serum I do find very light and once applied on, it disappears into skin and leave a very light luminosity. If you can I would get a sample from the counter and see if it suits you. Maybe use a very light moisturiser and then the serum under foundation. When dealing with oily skin, I always advise to look deal with it from every aspect of your skincare and makeup regime, not just one item. I hope this helps. x

  13. Love your blog! thank you for this post : )
btw. what did you use on her lips?

  14. Oh my, those colour correctors look wonderful! I have been searching for a replacement for my beloved YSL Teint Parfait in Apricot - why oh why did they discontinue this?! Mango looks like a fabulous replacement and I agree with everyone else, the model's skin looks really lovely.

Now if only they would be available in the US.... Here's hoping they'll be available in Heathrow when I fly through later on in the week....
